A Day in the Life: Concession Operations Manager

Beth Wilkinson is still fairly new to the Erie Events management staff, but not new to the Food Service industry.  When asked how long she’s been in the business, she responds “Since I was tall enough to reach a sink.”

A graduate of Mercyhurst University, Beth has worked many years in the field, finding her true passion as the Concession Operations Manager at the Erie Insurance Arena. Events are exciting and upbeat. The time goes by quickly when it’s such a fun atmosphere.

The focus for this season, aside from always providing exceptional customer service, is trying new menu items.  This season’s new menu items are caveman pops (turkey legs), arena chips and brownie sundaes. If you haven’t yet, make sure you try one of them when you’re at the Arena.

The Food & Beverage Department has four full-time employees, 51 part-time employees and six volunteer groups.  It takes hard work from everyone to get ready for an event.  We are definitely a great team and enjoy serving our patrons!

Bayhawks Season Quickly Approaching – Training Roster Set

The NBA Development League Draft took place earlier this evening as the Erie BayHawks drafted seven players. In addition, Erie has added four players from the Erie tryout and two players are returning from last season.

The BayHawks did not have a first round pick after using it to trade for Jeremy Tyler last season. Erie had two picks in the second round and pcked up Daniel Coursey (6’10, 220, Mercer) with their first pick of the draft. Coursey averaged over 10 points per game his senior year, helping Mercer advance to the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament after defeating three seeded Duke.

Erie then selected John Bohannon (6’11, 210, UTEP) with their second selection of the second round. Bohannon led his team last year in rebounds with 8.3 per game.

In subsequent rounds, the BayHawks took guard Lenzelle Smith Jr. (6’4, 210, Ohio State) in the fourth, guard Kevin Anderson (6’0, 175, Richmond) in the fifth, guard Travis Betran (6’3, 185, AustinPeay) in the sixth, center Marcus Goode (6’10, 295, Benedict College) in the seventh, and guard Justin Simmons (6’3, 190, Nebraska-Omaha) in the eighth and final round.

Also joining the BayHawks training camp roster are Marcel Anderson (6’1, 180, Harris Stowe State) and Darren White (6’4, 210, Campbell). Anderson played eight games for Erie last year and White played the entire season.

In addition to the seven players drafted and two that are returning, the BayHawks have invited four players, all who participated in the Erie tryout, to attend training camp. Those players include Alvin Brown (6’10, 2010, South Carolina-Aiken), Mike Schachtner (6’9, 215, Green Bay), Marquis Weddle (6’1, 185, Tennessee-Martin), and Jarvis Williams (6’6, 195, Minnesota State-Mankato).

The BayHawks Training Camp roster stands at 17 players, matching the maximum allowed by the league. Erie will open camp on Tuesday at Penn State Behrend’s Junker Center.

But if that ever happens when you’re at Erie Insurance Arena, you can now charge back up and carry on with your plans.

GoErie sponsors the two newly installed charging stations in the arena with eight chargers per unit.

“Burn It Down” Tour Heats up Erie Insurance Arena

After a two-day set up and an amazing concert, Erie Insurance Arena is already back to “normal.” The ice is uncovered and ready for the Otters upcoming Saturday game.

The Jason Aldean “Burn It Down” tour with Florida-Georgia Line and Tyler Farr came and went, but not without a putting on a memorable performance to a sold out crowd.

Crews rolled into town on Wednesday to start setting up the show that has sold out 50,000+ stadiums across the country.

Before a sold out, energetic crowd that packed the arena in plaid, cowboy boots and cowboy hats, Tyler Farr took the stage singing his most popular songs including “Whiskey in my Water” and “A Guy Walks into a Bar.” He warmed up the stage for the guys of Florida-Georgia Line who put on an unbelievable performance. The crowd sang along to their most popular songs including “Dirt,” “Cruise,” and “This is How We Roll.”

Then, the main event — Jason Aldean — came out in full force.  It was an intimate setting for the star as he performed for around 7,000 fans, a small crowd compared to his typical performances at larger venues. He didn’t disappoint, as he had pyrotechnics and around an hour and 45 minute performance. Fans heard his most popular songs, including “Burn it Down,” “Amarillo Sky,” “Don’t You Wanna Stay” and many more.

With that great show behind us, we’re now looking forward to the many more upcoming events at the Arena! For a full list of those events, visit
