SeaWolves, Tigers Announce PDC Extension

The Erie SeaWolves, in partnership with their parent club the Detroit Tigers, announce today an extension of the team’s Player Development Contract with the Detroit Tigers through the 2018 season.

“We are excited to continue our relationship wit the Detroit Tigers through the 2018 season,” SeaWolves Owner and CEO Fernando Aguirre said. “The Tigers are perennial postseason contenders, and many of the players responsible for that continued success played for the Erie SeaWolves.”

The SeaWolves began play in 1995 as the Short-Season New York-Penn League affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1999, Erie welcomed the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the Anaheim Angels to town. The SeaWolves began their current affiliations with the Tigers in 2001. Since partnering with the Tigers, 169 SeaWolves players have played in Erie and advanced to play Major League Baseball.

“We appreciate the relationship we have with the SeaWolves and are delighted to extend this agreement,” Dave Littlefield, Tigers’ Vice President of Player Development said. “While we are in the business of developing impact type players, winning is an important part of the process, and the goal is to see the Erie club win the Eastern League Championship.”
