SeaWolves and Erie Events Announce Lease Extension

The SeaWolves, Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are pleased to announce the club has signed an amended and restated lease agreement that runs through the 2020 season.

“One of the chief goals I set forth when purchasing the SeaWolves was to obtain a long-term, viable lease that keeps the team and high-quality Double-A baseball in Erie,” SeaWolves Owner/CEO Fernando Aguirre said. “Today’s announcement affirms our commitment to the Erie community and we look forward to offering affordable, family entertainment for many years to come.”

As a part of the agreement, Erie Events and Jerry Uht have granted the SeaWolves the rights to sell the name of the stadium. The SeaWolves would become the eighth Eastern League franchise with a naming rights partner. Until a naming rights partner is secured, the ballpark will continue to be identified as Jerry Uht Park.

In honor of Jerry’s contributions to the team and community, the space located between the ballpark and French Street will be named Jerry Uht Park.

“In today’s changing sports landscape, the ability to sell a naming rights package is a game changer for the franchise,” Aguirre added. “It helps add stability and gives the flexibility to enhance the fan experience. We thank Jerry for not only his initial support of the team in 1995, but his continued support throughout this process.”

The SeaWolves began play at Jerry Uht Park in 1995 as a New York-Penn League short season affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1999, Erie welcomed the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the Anaheim Angels to town. In 2001, the SeaWolves began their current affiliation with the Detroit Tigers. 2016 marks the 22nd consecutive season of professional baseball at the downtown ballpark.

“The SeaWolves offer first-class, family entertainment, and we’re excited to extend our partnership with the team through the 2020 season,” Casey Wells, Executive Director of Erie Events said.

SeaWolves Opening Night, presented by Plyler Overhead Door Co., is Thursday, April 14 against the Binghamton Mets (New York Mets) at 6:35 p.m. Single-game tickets, group outings and packages are available at the ballpark ticket office, by calling 814.456.1300 or visiting SeaWolves.com

Mast Lights at the Bayfront Convention Center Updated with Innovative Technology

March 11, 2016 (Erie, PA) – A big switch at the Bayfront Convention Center provides a savings on electricity, less maintenance and a variety of color options. The staff at the Bayfront Convention Center made the changeover during December from high intensity discharge lamps to fiber optics that can now be controlled from one location.

The new light source stems from inside the facility running up to the top of each of the four masts, eliminating the need to access the tops of the masts in the future. The update was necessary for many reasons including the addition of the Courtyard Hotel attached to the BCC restricting crane access to change the lamps. The fiber optic system will save on electricity and will require little maintenance.

Different tenants who use the facility, local sports teams and schools, holidays and community initiatives can be recognized with the new system. For example, the fiber optic lights can be turned blue for Autism Awareness month, pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month or yellow and blue during the playoffs for the Erie Otters. Each request to change the color of the lights will be handled on a case by case basis depending on the color options. There are six colors to choose from, red, green, blue, white, pink and yellow, with the default color for the lights shining blue.

The next available opportunity to see the lights in a different color will be from March 11th through March 18th. The lights will be green to recognize Saint Patrick’s Day.

March 3, 2016 (Erie, PA) — The White Lodging Management Company recognized the staff at the Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel for their diligent efforts and attention to detail by awarding them with five prestigious designations for 2015. White Lodging Management, the company overseeing the Sheraton, praised the efforts of both the hotel team and the food and beverage team, presenting them with the awards at the General Managers Conference. They were recognized as Guest Satisfaction Score Hotel of the Year, Market Share Hotel of the Year, Triple Platinum Hotel Designation, the Elsa Bruining Award (Best Customer Service) and Full Service Hotel of the Year, all for 2015.

“The Sheraton staff is filled with happy, well-trained associates who are highly engaged. Most impressively, we accomplished this during a renovation year,” said Dan Pora, General Manager of the Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel.

The $2 million, four month renovation completed in 2015 was a Starwood requirement after seven years to keep the property consistent with the superior reputation of the brand. The renovation process included upgrades to all facets of the hotel, including: 200 guest rooms, corridors, elevator landings, the club lounge, presidential suite, Bayfront Grille, bar, lobby, front desk and public restrooms.

“Thanks to you (Dan) for your effective leadership and to the entire Sheraton Bayfront associate team whose individual and collective efforts made this recognition possible,” said Bruce White, Chairman and CEO of White Lodging. “You are truly number one and set the standard for all of us at White Lodging.”

The Sheraton staff was also recognized for additional awards at the 2016 Starwood General Managers Conference in Denver. The hotel had the Best Guest Experience Index Scores in North America for 2015, a significant accomplishment within the Starwood group.

“The Bayfront Team was recognized with these awards because of the team’s excellent service delivery, problem resolution and food and beverage execution,” Pora said.

The hotel finished first in 2015 in more than a dozen categories including overall satisfaction, problem resolution, arrival experience, overall service, overall restaurant, genuine caring staff, staff responsiveness to guest needs, intent to recommend, overall expectations, positive word of mouth, feel like a valued guest, staff takes pride in their work, front desk helpful and overall room service.
