No Event is too Large or too Intimate for the Bayfront Convention Center

Hello again — from the desk of Lisa Di Luzio — Director of Marketing and Sales at the BCC! We have had many unique and extraordinary events pass through the BCC since last I wrote. An annual and personal favorite of mine is the Hamot Gala. This year was special because Hamot celebrated their fifth gala Great Gatsby style. There were gold hues adorning the tables and walls and framed quotes from the novel decorating the ballroom and intimate settings. In fact, Gatsby and the roaring twenties seem to be a prevailing theme this year. From prom ideas to wedding inspirations, the BCC has maintained the Gatsby atmosphere. I have even witnessed some of our employees switching to pearls for accessory.

Intermitted throughout this Gatsby theme, we held consumer shows. Consumer shows provide the added benefit of bringing the public into our venue, allowing them to experience what I sell on a daily basis. The consumer shows we have held so far include, but are not limited to, gymnastic, sport and travel, the American Kennel Club, and the auto show, which sported an amphicar! The diversity of the BCC is evident in our consumer shows alone. However, we also provide ample convention space.

The BCC’s two major conventions held so far were the Garden Club Federation of PA and the Brownfields Engineers Society of Western PA. Conventions stretch our market beyond Erie and bring people across North America into our community. And with the conventions, comes our opportunity to help fill the Sheraton and the Courtyard by Marriott, which will provide a new and welcomed challenge to my team.

Always looking forward to what is ahead!

Renovations Complete at Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel

Recently, the Sheraton Erie Bayfront completed a $2 million soft renovation of the hotel.  Renovation of the facility was required after seven years in operation in order to keep the property consistent with the superior reputation of the Starwood brand.

Funding for the project came from the Hotel’s “Fixtures, Furniture and Equipment” reserve account, which was created specifically for renovation purposes. The Erie County Convention Center Authority owns the hotel which is operated by White Lodging and asset managed by HVS Hospitality.

Erie-based company Perry Construction Group Inc. was the general contractor on the project. The group was assisted by subcontractors C.W. Beal Inc., Foulks Flooring America, Church and Murdock and JH Bennett Moving Company. Design work was done completely by Pittsburgh-based DRS Architects.

The four month renovation process included upgrades to all facets of the hotel, including: 200 guest rooms, corridors, elevator landings, the club lounge, presidential suite, Bayfront Grille, bar, lobby, front desk and public restrooms. Local artist Brian Pardini added some finishing touches.

A special component of the renovation, which can be enjoyed by all local residents and guests, is the extension of the Bayfront Grille Patio, one of Erie’s few restaurants along the waterfront. With the expansion, the patio has doubled its capacity, and can seat upwards of 130 guests and also features a new fire pit and signature cocktail bar.

Also included in the renovation was a revolving door at the hotel entrance. The door was installed to better control the climate in the hotel lobby during Erie’s winter and summer months.

A Day in the Life: Summer Time at the Warner Theatre

Hello Erie — Operations Manager of the Warner Theatre Barry Copple here!

Get Up and Go! It’s been a cold, long winter and nobody is happier than me to see Spring and Summer upon us! The Warner Theatre has been busy in 2015 and is now getting even busier. In June, we will host 14 events from graduations to dance reviews and receptions. Four local dance companies will perform their annual Spring Dance shows. Little’s Dance-O-Rama was on June 6th; Long’s School of Dance will perform June 12th and 13th; Marguerite’s Academy of Dance will take the stage June 19th and 20th; and Spotlight Dance Studios will perform June 26th. More than 8,000 people will attend those six performances.

After a busy June, our wedding and reception season will already be in full swing. This summer alone, we are hosting 12 receptions. Weird Al Yankovic will perform here July 10th at 8pm. Disney Live will perform two shows August 21st at 4pm and 7pm. Before you know it, Erie Broadway Series will start a new season in October which will run through April 2016 with six great shows. The Erie Philharmonic will return in September with another wonderful season of Symphony and Pops performances! So you see, we are really never without excitement here! There’s always something going on, always something leaving and always something to look forward too!

We can never forget the Warner as beautiful as it is, is always in need of repair or cleaning. Over the next several months, we will be in our summer cleaning and repair mode with items we might not otherwise have been able to tend to during the regular season. In the past 6-8 months, you may have noticed the historic Warner Box Office out front on State Street and the front doors have been restored. All the brass was cleaned, polished and sealed. This has significantly brightened up the front of the theatre!

I hope you found the latest installment of my blog interesting and informative. Come downtown for a show and check out the beautiful Warner Theatre!

Until next time, have a great summer and I’ll write again soon!

Mayhem Festival Coming to Erie Insurance Arena

The world’s biggest heavy music touring festival, the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL enters its eighth year with another fantastic heavy metal and hard rock line-up. The tour will make a stop at the Erie Insurance Arena on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 5:15pm. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 12, 2015 at 10:00am and can be purchased at the Erie Insurance Arena box office, or by calling (814) 452-4857.

The ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL will feature some of the most ground-breaking heavy bands of all time, spanning the originating years of heavy metal to today! The show will feature five-time-nominated, two-time Grammy winning legends Slayer as headliner, as well as additional performances from King Diamond, HELLYEAH, The Devil Wears Prada, and Whitechapel.

Kerry King, guitarist of Slayer states, “I don’t know if the third time will be a charm, but it will definitely be hellish! Slayer and King Diamond on stage for the first time together in the States- NEVER has Mayhem been more evil.”

ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL performer and heavy metal hellion King Diamond states, “This is going to be one hot and hellish summer! Slayer and King Diamond on the same stage – it does not get more devilish than this! We will be putting on a one hour set with the full King Diamond stage production. As for a set list, I’m not gonna reveal that here, but it will be built around “Dreams of Horror.” The Puppet Master will be there with Grandma, and we will even go as far back in time as to 1777 (hint). You’re all in for one hell of a show if you come to this Sabbath!”

“It has been eight years and it feels like it started just yesterday. We are so excited about this year’s lineup and having the mighty Slayer back in support of a new album. In addition, the first time for King Diamond and HELLYEAH will be awesome.  Heavy music is thriving in America and we are excited to be a part of it,” state John Reese and Kevin Lyman, ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL producers.

The festival will kick off on June 26 at Sleep Train Amphitheater in San Diego and ends at Gexa Energy Amphitheater in Dallas on August 2. Go to for more information.
