A Day in the Life: Assistant Director of Sports Facilities

Ed Snyder made the move to Erie and started working for Erie Events in May 2014. He comes from an Assistant General Manager position in Lancaster, PA where he spent six seasons with the minor league baseball team there. As the Assistant Director of Sports Facilities for Erie Events, he now oversees the daily operation of both Erie Insurance Arena and Jerry Uht Park, supervising event, maintenance and grounds staff. He has a close working relationship with the Erie SeaWolves, Erie Otters and Erie Bayhawks. But that’s not all. He also works closely with the Director of Sports Facilities to ensure other events such as Disney on Ice, the Globetrotters, Cirque De Soleil and concerts such as Jason Aldean, TSO and Rock the Lakes run smoothly.

Snyder’s main responsibility since joining the team has been the multi-million dollar HD video board. He had to learn the system and make sure it was operating properly before the start of the busy sports season. This technology affords him the opportunity to work closely with the Otters and Bayhawks staff to provide the best fan and sponsor experience during all sporting events.

Coming from a baseball background, Snyder can’t wait for the SeaWolves season to start. Two months until opening day!

Erie Events’ Venues Filled to Capacity for Weekend of Fun Activities

It might be the dead of winter in Erie, PA, but there are plenty of activities going on in downtown at the Erie Events’ properties.

The weekend was jam packed, starting with the annual RV Expo at the Bayfront Convention Center on Thursday.  There were campers, motorhomes, pop-ups, trailers, park homes and more that filled up the BCC. Hundreds of people came through the door throughout the entire weekend to get rid of that cabin fever and prepare for spring and summer getaways.

Friday night at Erie Insurance Arena was nearly a sell-out as the Erie Otters were back on home ice for the first time in almost three weeks. They came up short though, losing to the Western Conference-leading Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 6-1. They were back at it Saturday night, this time in front of a sold out crowd! They bounced back Saturday night at home for a thrilling 4-2 win over the London Knights, the 100 win for Otters’ head coach Kris Knoblauch.

Meanwhile, across the street at the Warner Theatre, a sold out crowd filled the venue for the Erie Philharmonic’s Heroes & Villains 8pm performance. It was the Erie Phil Pops concert featuring music of Superman, Indiana Jones, Batman, Harry Potter and more. The Phil performs again March 7th – Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody, again on March 28 with the Best of Michael Jackson and on April 11 for Mozart’s Requiem.

During what would typically be a quiet night at local restaurants/bars because of the winter weather, concerts, games and expos hosted at Erie Events’ venues brought thousands of people out to enjoy each other’s company and spend their money locally. Not only that, but our events brought in people from the tri-state area to either watch Connor McDavid with the Otters or hear the 100-year-old Erie Philharmonic. All in all it was a great weekend filled with activity in downtown Erie! Keep up to date with all the various happenings through Erie Events at

A Day in the Life: BCC Building & Grounds Superintendent

For Dave Yusz, the Building and Grounds Superintendent at the Bayfront Convention Center, there are no two days that are the same. From room setups to mechanical repairs, snow plowing to coordinating events from start to finish — you name it, he does it.

Yusz has been with Erie Events for about the last ten years, most recently being promoted from a Crew Leader at Erie Insurance Arena to his current position at the BCC five years ago.

He refers to himself as the “Jack of All  trades,” handling any job that comes his way, working what he says seems to be 24/7, 365. But, he doesn’t mind because he says he wants the job done to his standard.

The job is face-paced with something always on his plate. He supervises crews, does paperwork and coordinates nearly everything in the building.

One of the most recent, exciting events he worked was when former First Lady Laura Bush was in Erie as part at the Jefferson Educational Society’s Global Summit where she spoke at the BCC. It was a busy day as Yusz had to coordinate with the Secret Service from lighting, to seating, to where Bush’s car would enter the building, plus heating and crowd control. He coordinated an entire building sweep with the Secret Service and had to stay at the BCC during the entire event in case there was an emergency.

There’s never a dull day at the BCC as he deals with large groups of up to a couple thousand down to small groups of ten people. It’s a rewarding job as he coordinates to please all customers at the BCC.
